As I noted last week, these poems take a more lighthearted look at the world, specifically looking at fast food and fashion, though I doubt either situation would be seen as lighthearted by the soldiers lining the escalator or models walking the runway. Still, the images captured by these two photographers tell stories that go beyond heightened security measures for the spring festival in Wuhan, China or the latest fashions of the Schiaparelli spring/summer 2019 show in Paris. They both remind me of the essential need to laugh, even sometimes at ourselves. So whether you’re in for a Big Mac and fries or one of Alberta Ferretti’s bold creations, enjoy these reflections from January 2019.

May I Take Your Order – Vincent H. Anastasi
Who knew those Golden Arches, American emblem, could be so threatening as to demand a queue of soldiers lining the escalator, brandishing arms to protect an ignorant populace from the powerful propaganda of two all-beef patties and a happy meal?

Fashion – Vincent H. Anastasi
Should you chance to be in Paris Late this spring or summer, You might just spot a sight sublime Floating down the Champs Elysees: A four-tiered, iridescent jellyfish In shades of orange, pink, and purple, Sprouting a stoic human head, So unlike all other life Borne along the current Of the River Seine as it flows Through the heart of Paris. As with any jellyfish, beware its sting, Especially should you wade too deep In the aristocracy.
