Meditations on Modernity

III. The Medicine If I could take the creek to work, I would - hitch a ride with the swans who swam by yesterday or run the power lines with the squirrels zig-zagging my way high above the traffic, not directly as the crow flies. I need no modern technologies to sustain me, only a pint a week surrounded by slow-souls sojourning together for an hour or two at the local pub - call that medicine, the panacea for this dis-ease: the gnawing canker of modernity.
Part four will be released tomorrow. Part one and two were released previously.
By far my favorite “only a pint a week surrounded by slow-souls
sojourning together for an hour or two
at the local pub” ❤️ Are we opening one one day??

Retirement here I come! One like the Drover’s Arms where slow souls can gather and share life! No cellphones allowed!

Absolutely no question. No phones. And only the slow souls. Thinking we may not make any money, but that’s never been the point. If we don’t show people who will??

I’ve been watching All Creatures Great and Small on PBS about James Herriot. Great series and it’s only fueled my desire for a local pub where slow-souls can gather; a place where community is nurtured.

I love that show!!! I’ve read most of Herriot’s books. My oldest and I are watching that show. We should finish this season’s Christmas finale tonight. We bought the first two seasons too and watch them throughout the year!

I still need to buy them all. My family loves the show. We finished season three earlier in the week. Wow! No spoilers here, but my wife and I were crying. All six of my children (and my daughter-in-law) look forward to watching together each week.

Slow-souls enjoying a beer. I could handle that.

Absolutely! I envy all the small pubs in England. Not getting that in Western PA.
